Abstract

An analysis of the archaeological interpretations of the bronze age Minoan society illustrates how a dominant dialectic exists between shifts in contemporary philosophies and world views, and the changing interpretations of the archaeological record. While new finds cause the past to be reinterpreted, a more important factor is the outlook of archaeologists on their own world, subsequently reflected in the messages of reinforcement they seek and claim to recover from the world of the past. -J.Sheail
