Abstract

Argues that Waititi's dual investment in both global popular culture and aspects of te ao Māori in 'Boy' underscores the role that the imagination plays in the lives of adults and children alike, shakes orthodox interpretative frameworks surrounding indigenous cultural producers, and invites its audience to learn to listen anew to expressions of (and from) te ao Māori.
