Abstract

The novel from which this extract is taken appeared as Padlock Publication no. 64. Last year, its author was arrested, held for three months, and then released, pending trial. Two ‘literary experts’ were asked to give their opinion on the novel's qualities (see p37). The first-person narrative is in the form of an extended questionnaire which the author is submitting to the Personnel Manager, Mr Pavlenda, to whom he repeatedly addresses explanatory remarks. Olin is the hero's cousin, a former RAF pilot who spent years as a political prisoner in the uranium mines of West Bohemia. © 1979, Writers and Scholars International Ltd. All rights reserved.
