Abstract

Radio frequency identification (RFID) has been a relevant topic addressed by companies, academics and media. Many companies have been developing RFID initiatives in order to identify the potential applications and map the benefits associated with their implementation. This work presents a framework for RFID technology adoption, considering its business drivers, inhibitors, applications and expected benefits. This framework provided a conceptual basis for analyzing a research conducted in 114 companies in Brazil. Among other conclusions, we highlight the importance of companies' information technology area as an enabler for innovation and the weak association between expected benefits and business challenges with the current level of technology adoption.
