Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to justify and technically present the design of a program for the Faculty of Engineering of the University of La Serena that would allow the development of student competencies and skills. The program focuses on promoting student participation in the resolution of real problems while enhancing student approach to the job market. The design is based on project-based learning, on a service-learning methodology, and on a univariate analysis based on what is expressed by a representative sample of 164 industrial civil engineering students from the University of La Serena. The results show a favorable trend towards the need and relevance of implementing a program based on practical experience, active learning, and collaborative work. It is concluded the program contributes to practical training, promoting student satisfaction regarding the connection with the immediate environment and their development as a future professional.
