A retrofit for plot drills to enable automated seed metering

Abstract

A John Deere 5210 row-crop tractor was retrofitted with John Deere Ag Management Solutions hardware and software components to gain auto guidance and to automate seed metering on an Almaco and Kincaid plot drill. The retrofit simplifies site preparation, increases planting speed by about one-third, and allows plots to be trimmed to final length immediately following the seeding operation. © Crop Science Society of America.
