RHETORICS OF CORPOREITY IN SEX WORK. AN ETHNOGRAPHY OF PAID SEX

Abstract

This article refers to the uses that sex workers make with their bodies during the performance of their work activity with male clients. We will try to analyze, from an interpretivism perspective, how cultural plots, embodied in women’s own bodies, affect their corporeal practices. The research was approached using techniques of ethnography: participant observation, informal conversations and open interviews, fundamentally. The results obtained show how culture is embodied into the body, its practices and its limits. But they also reveal the ability of these women to modify these limits and their meanings through the management and control of their corporeality as a working tool, endowing them with autonomy and resources both in the workplace and outside it.
