Abstract
This article introduces exemplars as a method of stereotype learning by social robot. An exemplar is a highly specific representation of an interaction with a particular person. Methods that allow a robot to create prototypes from its set of exemplars are presented. Using these techniques, we develop the situation prototype, a representation that captures information about an environment, the people typically found in an environment, and their actions. We show that this representation can be used by a robot to reason about several important social questions. © Springer International Publishing 2013.
