Abstract
Alloys of Al-20% Si and Al-25% Si prepared by microwave sintering were investigated. The heating characteristics and microstructure of the alloy in the microwave field were observed; the porosity and hardness of alloys were studied. The results show that heating characteristic of alloys having three stages. XRD results indicated that alloy matrix contained mainly A1 and Si phase, no oxides phase. The results also showed that Al-20% Si alloy and Al-25% Si alloy can be prepared by using microwave sintering. Copyright © 2014 by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.
