Abstract

Entering the 21st century, global liquefied natural gas (LNG) flows have undergone a structural change. Especially over the past few years, LNG supply-demand landscape has increased the complexity and unpredictability in the face of ever-changing energy markets. According to the data for LNG export-import, production-consumption, gas proven reserve, sea transport distance, trade price and energy policy, this study thus endeavors to explore global LNG supply-demand patterns during 2000-2018, highlighting recent development of LNG by regions and nations. Further, seven factors are considered in an extended gravity model of LNG to quantitatively assess the driving factors of LNG flows. Finally, policy implications are put forward, which provide useful information for energy sectors to understand the dynamic LNG markets and the determinants of these changes.
