Abstract

The iridium(iii) cyclometalation of alkylated pyrene–benzimidazole ligands proceeds in an unprecedented manner. The resultant complexes display remarkably enhanced photooxidation capabilities using 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene as a substrate. © 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
