Abstract
Open innovation is a modern approach of innovation management to provide custom-fit products and services, but companies and library and information science (LIS) institutions use this technique rarely so far. Open innovation is not only limited to customers. Especially universities are suitable partners, but the potential of higher education cooperation in innovation processes seems far from being exhausted although numerous different forms of cooperation are conceivable.
