Abstract
The author speculates over a chiasmus to be experienced by librarianship throughout much of the twenty-first century, which will involve the transformation from the universal homogeneity of values and practice dominating the profession to the particularistic heterogeneity characteristic of nineteenth-century librarianship. He asserts that the chiasmus of librarianship will need to adopt research methodologies developed in collaboration with multiple knowledge systems.
