Abstract

Worker exposure to bloodborne diseases can be minimized through: . training and education programs; . use of personal protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, face masks and eye protection; . work practices such as thorough hand washing after each patient contact; . proper handling of sharps; . engineering controls such as biological safety cabinets and puncture-resistant sharps containers; . immunization programs; . proper disposal of contaminated waste; . use of disinfectants; . labeling and signs.
