PERSEPSI SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR KELAS RENDAH TERHADAP AKTIVITAS MEMBACA NYARING (READING ALOUD) : SEBUAH STUDI KASUS

Abstract

Literasi Membaca Membaca Nyaring Reading Aloud Gerakan Literasi Sekolah Several tests show a poor level of reading interest and competence of Indonesians. Through the Ministry of Education and Culture, the government initiates School Literacy Movement to solve the problem. One of the attempts proposed for the elementary school level is the Reading Aloud activity. The present study investigates the lower level elementary school students' perception of the activity. The study is a case study research conducted in a private elementary school in Purwakarta, West Java. It is conducted online because of the long-distance learning situation caused by the CoVid-19 pandemic. The data were derived from three techniques, i.e. observation (a video recording sent via WhatsApp), questionnaire (Google Form) and interview (via Voice Note WhatsApp). Helped by parents, 18 grade one students' conducted Reading Aloud Activity. There is a reduction in the number of respondents because of the great challenge of long-distance learning in the CoVid-19 pandemic. There were only five respondents whose data were considered appropriate to be analysed. It is found that students show a positive attitude towards the activity, which can be observed from listening, nodding, smiling, laughing and imitating sound/expression/gesture by the story read. All of the students (100%) agree that they feel happy doing the activity though some (40%) express that it does not necessarily increase their confidence in learning to read by themselves.
