Abstract

The larvae and pupae of Coelopynia pruinosa Freeman, Macropelopia (Apsectrotanypus) maculosa (Freeman) and Ablabesmyia notabilis (Skuse) are described. The pupae of Procladius australiensis? Kieffer, 3 other possible Procladius Skuse species and Paramerina levidensis (Skuse), and the possible larva of P. australiensis?, are also described. Additional descriptive notes and figures on the adults of the above species are offered. A new tribe of Tanypodinae, Coelopyniini, is proposed for Coelopynia pruinosa. The Australian species of Procladius [including the type‐species, P. paludicola (Skuse)] appear to be subgenerically distinct from the subgenus Procladius as presently used in Europe and North America.
