Abstract

Accurate seabed mapping is needed to answer the challenges faced by marine researchers today. Sub-bottom profiler is present as one of the acoustic systems used to describe the profile of seabed sediment layers, as well as information on layer thickness and stratigraphy. The purpose of this study is to describe a 2D profile and determine the value of the reflection coefficient of the bottom sediment layer in the waters of the Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi. The reflection coefficient is important to analyze in relation to the grain size and type of bottom sediment of the waters. Data acquisition was carried out using a sub-bottom profiler Syqwest Stratabox type with a frequency of 10 kHz. FFT signal processing and a bandpass filter are applied to remove noise from the main signal and to get better results. The results of data processing show that the bottom sediment of the waters has a surface reflection coefficient that ranges from 0.1168 to 0.7938 with a fine iron sand bottom type.
