Abstract

Iterative method for the determination of stage temperatures, stage reaction rates and interstage flow rates in the problem of multicomponent distillation accompanied by a simultaneous chemical reaction is discussed, and the use of a modified Muller's method for the convergence of the column temperature profile is proposed. Derivation of the equation is simplified by using matrix notation, which also has the advantage that any interstage flow pattern is allowed. For the solution of the linearized material balance equation, the tridiagonal matrix algorithm is employed. Some problems are discussed to demonstrate the feasibility of the calculations and the fact that quadratic convergence is obtained. © 1971, The Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan.
