Abstract
Interior construction significantly impacts the sustainability of the building sector. Achieving sustainable interior design requires a balance of aesthetic, financial, and environmental considerations. Understanding stakeholder implications and expectations is essential for enduring success. This research examines these effects and expectations to develop a low-cost digital stakeholder interaction platform. Qualitative data is gathered through semi-structured interviews with stakeholders in the UK, including architects, contractors, and end users. The focus is to understand stakeholder expectations and the perceived current approaches to achieving sustainability with cost-efficiency in the interior construction industry. A digital tool is developed integrating Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twin technologies. This tool enables stakeholders to engage in the early design stages and provides an overview of the project's sustainability in terms of cost and utility performance. It is designed as a user-centred decision-making tool that effectively encourages stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices while balancing these practices with cost considerations. This research aims to develop a low-cost digital platform utilizing Al and Digital Twin technologies to provide an overview of project sustainability, thereby supporting informed decision-making in the early design stages. A potential future research direction based on this work could be exploring additional low-cost digital transformation methods in stakeholder engagement.
