Abstract

An efficient, three-component synthesis of novel class of dihydropyran-2-ones which are fused with coumarin rings, from reaction between Meldrum's acid, aryl aldehydes and 5,7-dihydroxy-4-methyl (and phenyl) coumarin was described. In this research 9,10-dihydropyrano[2,3-h]benzopyrone-8-ones in the presence of catalytic amount of piperidine as organo basic catalyst were obtained in good to excellent yields under refluxing methanol for the time. ©ARKAT-USA, Inc.
