Abstract
Public Significance Statement: Sports and games are impactful cultural activities in most, and perhaps all, human societies. Although scholars have long recognized the importance of sports and games, they have only rarely used an evolutionary perspective to explore them. This special issue consists of eight articles that illustrate some of the many approaches that can be taken when studying sports and games from an evolutionary perspective.
