Abstract

In order to reach temperatures above 2200 K in the piston cylinder apparatus, thermal conduction to the pressure vessel walls must be minimized, and all low melting point components need to be excluded. We present a simple arrangement for performing experiments up to ∼3000 K. A modified form, with a larger sample size, is also shown for experiments up to around 2200 K.
