Abstract

Aim of the study. To investigate the resistance of the most commonly used laminate veneer materials (lithium disilicate, feldspatic ceramic, zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate) to fracture. Materials and methods. This article follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement. The literature search was performed in PubMed, Wiley Online Library and ScienceDirect databases, for articles published between 2016 and 2021 in the English language. The included studies were evaluated for the risk of bias following a preestablished criterion. Results. 481 publications were found, out of which 13 were identified as relevant to the topic. There was a noticeable relation between the choice of restoration materials and fracture strength. Most of the included studies (69.2%) evaluated the lithium disilicate material for fracture resistance. The posterior teeth group was used more often for fracture resistance tests in comparison to anterior teeth group. Thermomechanical aging was performed in 8 out of 13 studies (61.5%). Conclusions. Zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate and resin nanoceramic veneers showed more favourable outcomes in their resistance to fracture. Therefore, the preparation of substantial tooth structure causes higher probability of fracture occurrence.
