Acute Renal Failure

Abstract

Since uraemia can often be controlled effectively by peritoneal dialysis, many patients with acute renal failure are treated outside specialist renal centres. This article outlines the management of acute renal failure in a regional hospital and gives some indications for referral to a specialist unit. But it is the interests and experience of the clinician involved, rather than the availability of special equipment, that will dictate the need for referral in most cases. © 1970, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
