Abstract

Abstrak Kemangi merupakan tumbuhan yang mudah dijumpai serta memiliki banyak manfaat. Kemangi juga diketahui memiliki kandungan minyak atsiri yang dapat digunakan sebagai antibakteri, sehingga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai antiseptik herbal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji minyak atsiri kemangi dan diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel hand sanitizer yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri melalui pengujian menggunakan metode difusi. Minyak atsiri kemangi diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel menggunakan gelling agent Carbopol 990. Variasi kadar minyak atsiri kemangi yang diuji aktivitas antibakterinya sebesar 5; 7,5; dan 10%, dari ketiga kadar tersebut, kadar 7,5% paling efektif untuk digunakan dalam formulasi sediaan gel hand sanitizer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa minyak atsiri kemangi dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel hand sanitizer yang memenuhi persyaratan; uji organoleptis, pH, viskositas, daya sebar, dan sentrifugasi. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli menunjukkan zona hambat sebesar 6,6 mm dan pada Staphylococcus aureus sebesar 5,2 mm. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini minyak atsiri kemangi dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan gel hand sanitizer yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Kata Kunci: Minyak atsiri kemangi, gel hand sanitizer, antibakteri Abstract Basil is a plant that is easy to find and has many benefits. Basil is also known to contain essential oils that can be used as antibacterial, so they can be used as herbal antiseptics. The purpose of this study was to test basil essential oil and to formulate it into a hand sanitizer gel preparation that has antibacterial activity through testing using the diffusion method. Basil essential oil was formulated into gel preparations using the gelling agent Carbopol 990. Variations in levels of basil essential oil tested for antibacterial activity were 5, 7.5, and 10%, of the three levels, 7.5% was the most effective for use in hand sanitizer gel formulations. The results showed that basil essential oil can be formulated into hand sanitizer gel preparations that meet the requirements; organoleptic test, pH, viscosity, spread ability, and centrifugation. The results of the antibacterial activity test against Escherichia coli bacteria showed an inhibition zone of 6.6 mm and for Staphylococcus aureus of 5,2 mm. The conclusion of this study is that basil essential oil can be formulated into a hand sanitizer gel preparation that has antibacterial activity.
