Abstract

Microplastics are a significant and growing worldwide contaminant that has profound effects on both the environment and human health. Their potential to carry harmful compounds and their pervasiveness throughout ecosystems and the human body raise grave concerns. Global standards and regulatory frameworks are still insufficient in spite of advancements in detection technologies. Urgent and concerted efforts are needed to address this problem, with a focus on enhanced monitoring, stringent regulations to reduce plastic pollution, and prevention at the source. The long-term effects of microplastic exposure could seriously jeopardize environmental sustainability and public health if nothing is done right away.
