Abstract
One out of five victims of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage has coincident retinal and vitreous hemorrhage. This association appears to demonstrate an increased mortality rate in its victims and, for this reason, mandates proper and expedient diagnosis and management. For many individuals the intraocular hemorrhage will resolve spontaneously. But for the few whose media is permanently opacified, surgical intervention may be prudent. Various postulated mechanisms for the formation of the intraocular hemorrhage will be evaluated in this article, along with the presentation of a patient with Terson's syndrome. ?? 1991.
