Abstract

Mannosylglycerate (MG) and its derivatives have received much attention during the past decade, especially because they play an important role as thermal-stabilizers of several enzymes. Here we report a new and original synthetic method of (2R)-2-(α-D-mannopyranosyl)glycerate, which was prepared according to a five-step procedure starting from commercially available 3,4-O-isopropylidene-D-mannitol as the glycerate source.
