This text presents a comprehensive collection of techniques used to capture and band birds. The scope is worldwide and includes numerous historical methods. Hundreds of methods are presented, and include the target species or group and details of construction and deployment. Intended for professional ornithologists authorized to trap birds, the text does not include details of state, national, and international law that forbid the use of some of the techniques discussed (i.e. the use of live native lure birds in North America). The original German text was translated into English by F. Hamerstrum and K. Wuertz-Schaefer. Hundreds of drawings and photographs illustrate the text which closes with a bibliography and a species index.
