Abstract

Trager® Psychophysical Integration is named and discovered by its founder Milton Trager M.D. (1908-1998). The aim of the trager approach is a reeducation towards freer movement patterns. A trager practitioner uses gentle, nonintrusive touch and movements, combined with a questioning mind. Milton Trager called this state of open awareness "hook-up". While being connected to the client and the tissue being touched, the practitioner keeps asking: "What is freer, what is lighter? And lighter than this?" It is the questioning, which leads the unconscious mind in active mentastics or passive receiving on a massage table towards freer and better experiences. The new patterns can remain by the use of recall. Because the freer movements are comfortable and natural, the body-system wants to repeat it and thereby starts moving accordingly. The Trager-Method can be of use in wellness, stress release, movement meditation, self-realisation and also in movement reeducation in paralysis, severe backproblems, breathing and postural diseases.
