Abstract
Abortion is frequent, mainly in contexts which restrict free and informed reproductive choices. The purpose was to describe the sociodemographic and reproductive profile of pregnant women with prior abortions or attempts in the present pregnancy under the FHS. A descriptive, cross-sectional study performed with 191 pregnant women. Descriptive analyses were developed using bivariate tables. Out of the sample, 23.7% informed prior abortions and 9% had tried to abort the present pregnancy. Ages of 20 or over prevailed for both groups, married/common-law marriage, brown skinned, catholic/no religion, low schooling and housewives; with first sexual intercourse before the age of 20, more than three children, unplanned pregnancy and without the use of contraceptives. It was concluded that women participating in the survey presented socio-economic vulnerability, limiting access to information and to means of contraception and increasing exposure to unplanned pregnancy, abortions and to its consequences.
