Abstract
In automobile manufacturing sector the connecting rod is a important component to change the reciprocating type of motion to rotary type of motion and vice versa. It connecting member between reciprocating piston and rotating crankshaft, it transmits the force on the piston due to fuel combustion to the crankshaft in the form of mechanical work. In common practice the connecting rods were manufactured with the material of different grades of carbon steel, cast iron different aluminum alloys as well as the manufacturing process is dropforging from powder metals or wrought steel. In some cases, casting also used for manufacturing of rods the casted connecting rods have blow-holes which can be determined by durability test and fatigue tests. The main objective of this type of analysis is to study and compare the optimized weight and price reduction of the connecting rod in some compression ignition engines. As the connecting rod is subjected to whipping stresses to design the rod we should study different stresses and various forces to be considered to avoid failure of connecting rods. By considering all these forces, the analysis is useful for better optimized design.
