Abstract

Despite the legal protection regime that the landscape has acquired since the entry into force of the European Landscape Convention and the vast scientific and technical production derived from it, we believe that even today controversy over its complex nature and problems in integrating all the dimensions that define it diminish the effectiveness of protection, management or planning actions. In this scenario, we present the landscape project from the territorial heritage, an autonomous framework for reference to guide the design strategies to the restoration of the dynamics of landscape formation. We assume that this restoration is necessary to promote self-sustainable local development. The definition of this landscape project is based on the reasoning and methodology provided by the Florentine territorialist school for an integrated plan of the territory, with which we understand that it pursues the same goal. The aim of the research is to establish the methodological terms and the geographical scope that ensure that any strategy within the framework of the landscape project is oriented towards the restoration of the dynamics of landscape formation. The definition arises from a synthesis of the conclusions drawn from the review of the analytical methodology for the projection of the territory’s identity and from an analysis of the degree of consistency between the structures of the landscape plans of Puglia and Tuscany and of this analytical methodology.
