Abstract

We present the first record of Heterocercus aurantiivertex (Passeriformes: Pipridae) from Colombia, based on photographic records. This species is present in the Amazonian Varzea forest in the lower Putumayo, at La Paya National Park. Our record is the first at the northern part of the Putumayo river (Iça), which result not at all unexpected due to the habitat continuity from the forest in Ecuador and Peru, to the forest in the Putumayo department in Colombia. However, this record posits a new challenge to the Putumayo river as a biogeographic barrier.
