What is Preaching According to the New Testament?

Abstract

The article first discusses some NT terms: kerussein, euangelizesthai, marturein, didaskein, propheteuein and parakalein, and concludes that in preaching the Word of God spoken in Jesus Christ comes to the hearers. This is confirmed by NT teaching, in particular by the Pauline Epistles. The Reformers shared this view of preaching. Subsequently it was criticized by liberal theology, but Barth defined preaching again as the third form of the Word of God. is this too massive? there is a dialectical tension here. We must always say two things at the same time: Preaching is the Word of God because (quia) and in as far as (quatenus) it is the exposition of the Word of God. Preaching is indispensable for the church.
