Abstract
The "Concise Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry" is a short, practical textbook for clinical medical students, general practitioners and other clinicians who see patients with psychiatric problems. An important strength of this new book is that it gives clear, didactic advice on the assessment and management of psychiatric problems in everyday clinical practice. It also advises general clinicians when to manage problems themselves and when to refer to a psychiatrist. The text is derived from the highly readable and widely successful "Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry (2nd ed.)" (Oxford University Press, 1994) [see 89-257036-000], a comprehensive textbook for psychiatrists in training and a source of revision and reference for qualified psychiatrists. The chapters in the "Concise Textbook" cross-refer freely to the larger textbook, so that more detailed information can be easily located. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
