Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate by isothermal measurement techniques the p-v-T properties of liquid crystalline polymer composites (LCP-GF30) filled with 30% glass fiber and of polycarbonate (PC) at 20∼325°C and 0 ∼150 MPa. In order to carry out these purposes, we have constructed a plunger type of apparatus. The specific volume of PC in atmospheric pressure increases about 7% in the molten range because of the thermal expansion, but it gradually decreased with increasing loading pressure. But that of LCP-GF30 increases only 0.15% in atmospheric pressure at 325°C and is nearly constant under various loading pressures. Therefore, the specific volume of LCP-GF30 was almost independent of temperature and pressure in the steady state. © 1991, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan. All rights reserved.
