Abstract

The overarching goal of this research was to deduce how social media impacts teenagers' sense of self. By using bibliometric analysis, it determined the most pertinent issues about the impact of social media on the development of adolescents' identities. The study was conducted using the term "adolescent identity" as an input. Since Scopus is the gold standard for bibliometric research, it was used for this purpose. To further illustrate the interconnectedness of writers, nations, journals, and keywords, the bibliometric analysis program VOSviewer was used. There were a total of 285 papers uncovered in the study that took place on July 24, 2024, covering the years 1966 to 2024. According to the findings, there has been a meteoric rise in the amount of literature on teenage identity during the last three years. The United States has been the world leader in adolescent identity research, with a huge number of publications and contributions from prestigious writers and institutes. The preeminent journal in this area is the Journal of Youth and Adolescence. One of the most recent research on teenage identity examined the association between social media and adolescent identity, according to keyword analysis. This bibliometric analysis sheds light on the main research issues and recent developments in the field of studying the effects of social media on adolescent identity.
