Abstract

The taxonomic treatment of Xyridaceae for the project "Flora of Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brasil" is presented. The family is represented in that area by 58 species in the genus Xyris Gronov. ex L. X.sparsifolia Kral & L.B. Sm. and X. spinulosa Kral & L.B. Sm. are new records for Minas Gerais and X. consanguinea Kunth and X. glandacea L. A. Nilsson are rediscovered. X. trichophylla Malme is proposed as a new synonym of X. minarum Seub. Three new species are described: X. pirapamae Wand. & J. Guedes, X. shepherdiana Wand. & J. Guedes and X. atrospicata Wand. & J. Guedes, all of them endemic to the area. Descriptions of the taxa, key and illustrations as well as comments on the taxonomy, geographical distribution, and phenology are presented.
