Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the role of the image in the current post-truth era, as well as focus on the concept of the image itself, a central object of study in the field of communication sciences. Addressing the conceptual complexity of the image, both semiotic and symbolic, this article describes the diverse array of study approaches used in the analysis of images. Se-veral proposals are put forward for this analysis, based on the current context of disinformation. Finally, this article briefly reflects on the need to investigate audiovisual texts within our current “post-truth” and “spectacularized” society.
