Abstract

The magnetron injection gun (MIG) is an important component in a gyro-travelling wave tube. To improve the efficiency of the MIG design process, a design tool based on ANSYS Workbench combining with other commercially available software, has been developed. The design process for a Q-band triode MIG is described. A pitch factor of 1.004 and low axial velocity spread of 1.54% were achieved. The results of design tool were validated by EGUN and by numerical calculation. © 2014 IEEE.
