Abstract

Studied the effects of odor-induced negative affect and degree of task involvement on the decision-making process. Human Ss: 62 normal male Japanese adults (aged 18–21 yrs) (undergraduate students). Ss with negative affect or neutral affect were asked to select 1 of 10 tape recorders for actual use or fictitious use (high-involvement condition vs low-involvement condition). An information display board listed the design/operational/cost features of the 10 machines. A Likert-type questionnaire on Ss' emotional state and attitude toward the task was administered.
