A comparison of learning style theories on the suitability for eLearning

Abstract

Even though numerous studies of the learning style theories were carried out over last decades there is no general consensus of which learning style theory is best one to apply to eLearning or web based learning platforms. The aim of our study was to select a most suited and feasible learning style theory in respect to eLearning design and development. Our preliminary study suggests that Felder-Silverman's model is the most appropriate candidate to take on that role. This well known theory is well-fitting for fulfilling the adaptability tailoring to learning differences and individual needs, one of the most important requirements for successful eLearning systems. We also present the limitations of our study and propose future research.
