Highlights DSpace as a type of open source and open source feature. Results, according to exploratory and bibliographic research and a qualitative approach to data collection, that the DSpace provides the construction of institutional repositories around the world, including throughout the national territory, that the dissemination of events and programs of the Institution is not covered by the software, while one of the predicates intrinsic to the concept of institutional repository, whereas DSpace covers the other identified predicates, such as: to manage data and research activities; to support and traffic digital objects using the Dublin Core metadata standard; to manage knowledge of the corpus of contents that constitutes the institutional repository; to expose the productions virtually, fully and openly; to intent digital preservation; and to manage profiles and deposits of works for quality purposes.
