Abstract

Five cases of Berlocq dermatitis (4F, IM) were treated at Toho University Hospital between 1979 and 1984. The responsible products were perfume in one case, eau de Cologne in two cases, and eau de toilet in two cases. All these products were manufactured in France. Photopatch tests were performed in two cases using suspected products and UVA. In one case, eau de Cologne produced positive phototoxic reactions while in another case one perfume and one eau de Cologne produced phototoxic reactions. The phototoxicity of the perfume which was used by one case was confirmed by phototests in Hartley albino guinea pigs. Chemical analysis of the suspected products used by the four cases was performed using high speed liquid chromatography. The maximum concentrations detected in these products were 41 ppm for bergapten, 107 ppm for limettin, and 10ppm for oxypeucedanin. © 1985, Meeting of Osaka Dermatological Association.
