Abstract
The study titled “A Systematic Review of the Efficacy and Safety of Mulberry Formulations for Chemotherapy- and/or Radiotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis” provides an evaluation of black mulberry formulations as a treatment for oral mucositis, a common and painful side effect of cancer treatments. The review included studies up to March 2023 and found that mulberry formulations were effective in reducing the severity of oral mucositis, improving pain scores, and enhancing the quality of life for patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy1. Key findings from the review include: Mulberry formulations showed a significant decrease in grade 2 and grade 3 oral mucositis compared to other interventions or control groups. Mulberry was effective in reducing dry mouth symptoms. Patients using mulberry experienced more improvement in pain scores and overall quality of life. The incidence and severity of oral mucositis were lower in the mulberry group compared to other interventions. One study noted less weight loss, and another observed gradual weight gain with the use of mulberry. This systematic review suggests that mulberry could be a promising option for managing oral mucositis in patients receiving cancer treatments
