Abstract

Shaoyao Gancao decoction (SGD), a well-known Chinese herbal formula, has been used to treat liver injury for a long time. In this study, chemical profiles of SGD were identified using ultra high-performance liquid chromatography combined with Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (UHPLC-FT-ICR-MS/MS). Liquid chromatography was performed on a C18 column (150 mm × 2.1 mm, 1.8 μm); the mobile phase comprised 0.1% formic acid (A) and acetonitrile (B). We then characterized 73 chemical compounds; the primary constituents in SGD included phenols and monoterpenes (in Paeoniae Radix Alba), triterpene saponins, and flavonoids (in Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata Cum Melle). Thus, this study provides a basis for further study on SGD and is expected to be useful for rapidly characterizing constituents in other traditional Chinese herbal formulations. This journal is
