Abstract
The new selection rules formulated for gyrotropic materials in presence of the Faraday Rotation by earlier workers are critically examined in the light of the work of Slobodyanyuk and Schaack. It is argued that it is difficult to distinguish between the two effects, namely, the position dependence (size effect) and phase dependence (interference effect) causing intensity anomalies in Raman scattering. © 1990 Indian Academy of Sciences.
