Abstract

A method for estimating television signal fluttering caused by aircraft is described, and a procedure to predict areas of disturbance to television reception is proposed. To investigate aircraft scattering characteristics, a measurement is carried out using a 1/100 scale model B747 jet at 12 GHz in an anechoic chamber. It is found from the measurement that the scattering characteristics can be approximated without any significant error by calculation with a scattering model composed of 46 rectangular reflectors. Calculations of fluttering with the scattering model have coincided with measurements by B747 jets around Tokyo International Airport. A method is derived to predict areas disturbed by fluttering.
