Abstract

We found that optical nonlinearity in SiO2 glass sample can be greatly enhanced when sample is poled in wet and salty environments, and the nonlinearity in the sample can be reduced drastically when sample is washed in water. Possible causes for the observed enhancement and reduction of optical nonlinearity in SiO2 glass are discussed.
